SweetHeart TANGLE PATTERN

Loopy lines.......love them and use them often to create a base framework to build drawings on. They've starred in a few of my patterns, too! About a week ago during some enforced downtime I started thinking about connecting loopy lines in a pattern and when I started experimenting on paper the happy result was the appearance of hearts - how could I resist? So, first - the pattern: Here is a quick video showing how to draw 4 panels to create the "flower": And finally, some samples in use: Have a great day! hx

Pod Flower - PATTERN STEP OUT

Before John broke his leg last year and everything was put on hold, I was working on a pattern experimentation tool. I've finally been able to get back into it and found some patterns I'd already had a play with. Here is one of them: Depending on shading or detail, two different "flower" shapes that can be emphasised in this pattern. Here are some fill ideas.  On a wonky grid with a bit of randomising thrown in. It's a very simple pattern with floral elements - always one of my fave themes. Have a great day! hx

Trumpets - Tangle PATTERN

I seem to have a thing for diamond shapes in patterns of late. Here is another one which I've dubbed TRUMPETS: You could stop at any point from step 4 on this one. I really like the way that, depending on where you focus, a different set of trumpet "flowers" come forward/go back in the design (look at step 8 and step 9). I've deliberately put dots in the centre of only one set to enhance this effect. I can't resist giving a pattern a go on a wonky grid to do a 'quality check for versatility' - here's a quick sketch done up to step 6. When I was moving the cows on Friday from the Creek paddock to the Daffodil paddock, I couldn't resist picking some flowers for the house. This paddock of daffodils was one of the lovely surprises that you discover after you buy a property, that first Winter they just started appearing. The paddock had been leased to grow daffodils many, many years ago. We moved a lot of different varieties up to the h

Queen B & Warre - Tangle PATTERNS

Here's a shock confession for you - I'm a chronic doodler. What can I say? Put a pen and paper in my hands and it just happens. My notebooks are peppered with patterns in between the more "serious" notes. I was having a tidy up recently and discovered these doodles amongst the notes from a Natural Beekeeping workshop I took a few years ago. After breaking them down I thought they made good pattern candidates.  So, here are Queen B and Warre: A sample drawing created with Queen B: Hope you have fun with them :)

Hearts and Diamonds Tangle PATTERN

I wanted to create a pattern with Hearts and Diamonds. And, now, I'm happy to say my Lifelong Dream has been achieved (well, o.k., "lifetime" maybe overstating it a little, it is probably more accurate to call it "vague idea that I liked the sound of".......but that doesn't sound anywhere near as exciting, right?). hahaha. ANYWAY......here it is: You could stop at step 4, but I really like the way the diamonds effectively "disappear" and the hearts become more pronounced as the line detail is added in step 5 and 6. If you want to add these lines too, the pattern could begin with a square line grid framework instead if you find that easier. Have a great day!

Way Knot Tangle PATTERN

I came across the  Zentangle pattern Way Bop  back in February when it was mentioned on my Facebook page as a pattern that people were finding challenging. I couldn't resist having a play with it and finding way of drawing it that worked for me, I also wanted to create a continuous pattern from the shape and after some experimentation and tweaking of the shape, "Way Knot" was the end result (named for the little "knots" that connect the shapes). These step-outs and video were completed in February, but I forgot about them until I looked back through my journal this morning. Bonus! So here goes, the step-outs for Way Knot. Part One: Individual pattern element up close. Part Two: Build up individual elements and connect. Part 3: Various fills change up the look. This video demonstrates part one and two and also includes an alternative "bracket" method for drawing the base structure of the pattern which you may find easier, o

Spiral Rose - PATTERN & VIDEO

I know I've been promising the step-outs for Spiral Rose for a while, but I've been......ah..........distracted. The pitfalls of a short attention span. hahaha Today  finally, I have it ready to share with you, and in case you are scratching your head and are all like....."huh, spiral what?"......... Here's the step-out: I think these rose patterns have been a bit of a flash back to 90's folk art painting. Pretty sure I'm done now. Here's the video: As a rare treat (in which you may read "treat" to actually mean "cruel and unusual punishment"), I am subjecting you to some narration in this video. It's been a few years since I've talked in a video as I really hate my voice - I pretty much "broke" it 10 years ago when I had whooping cough and after months of intense nightly coughing I damaged my voice permanently, practically losing it for a year. It's never been the same since. Thou
